This lot of handwoven Chumpi belts are handmade in Ecuador with a wool blend material. Chumpis are known as the Path of Life belts with deep cultural and mystical meaning. Chumpi belts are handwoven using natural fibers like alpaca wool, dyed with plant and mineral sources, and often infused with spiritual intention through ceremonies conducted by indigenous weavers and medicine people.
The belts come in various colors and have a hippy look, making them perfect for casual occasions. Made in Otavalo, Ecuador, home of the famous outdoor Otavalo open air market by a multi generational family of Quichua artisans.Our Chumpis, or fajas, as they are called in Ecuador, can be used for a variety of things--a tie belt, a guitar strap, a sash, a camera strap, or yoga mat carriers. Ours are sewn with loops in the end for Yoga mat carriers. Wider straps are better for regular mats and narrower and longer straps are more appropriate for fatter mats.They range in width from 2 1/2 inches up to 5 inches and are approximately 60 inches long, in a wide variety of woven designs.
